What is Qurbani and why is it important?
Qurbani/Udhiyah is the tradition of sharing meat with your family and with the poor at the end of the Hajj season, at Eid al-Adha.
It is a sacrificial act done for the pleasure of Allah (SWT).The prophet (peace be upon him) was asked, what is Udhiyyah (Qurbani)?’ He replied, ‘It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Many muslim families in Africa cannot afford to buy meat for a simple meal throughout the year. For countless deprived people, the pleasure of eating meat is only sometimes possible once a year which is on the day of Eid Adha.
